At the PlayStation 5 reveal event today, a variety of upcoming titles that will be leveraging the power of the yet-to-be-released console were unveiled. Among these, IO Interactive's Hitman series made an appearance as well, with the World of Assassination trilogy's final chapter being revealed as Hitman 3.
The announcement trailer showcases a look at how the series is planned to culminate with its latest and final entry making its way to the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC in January next year. The title's blurb reads as follows:
HITMAN 3 is the dramatic conclusion to the World of Assassination trilogy and takes players around the world on a globetrotting adventure to sprawling sandbox locations. Agent 47 returns as a ruthless professional for the most important contracts of his entire career.
A further cinematic gameplay trailer highlights an in-game location at Dubai, featuring different in-engine shots from the "top of the world". The remaining five locations will be unveiled in the coming weeks, alongside hands-on gameplay trailers as well.
Through a blog post, IO Interactive remarked upon the scope of the title as the final chapter in the saga, noting that "Hitman 3 will act as a platform for the entire trilogy, and we are excited to finally realise a vision that we had five years ago; to create a game world that would continually grow and expand over time." The video game developer also stated that further details on how location and progression carryover would work out will be released further down the line.
