Today would have been the first day of MWC 2020, and so a bunch of companies are still making announcements through live-streamed events today. Huawei's Honor sub-brand is one such company, which is introducing a new flagship phone, the View 30 Pro, and a new mid-ranger, the 9X Pro.
The Honor View 30 Pro packs pretty much what you'd expect from a flagship, including the new Kirin 990 5G chipset, making it the first Honor smartphone with 5G, though it only supports sub-6GHz bands. It also packs a 4100mAh battery with 40W wired charging and 27W wireless charging.
The big focus for the Honor View 30 Pro is the camera, though. The main sensor is a 40MP SuperSensing camera that uses an RYYB sensor, similar to last year's Huawei P30 Pro. With an ISO of up to 409600, the camera promises great low-light photography. On top of that, there's an 8MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and OIS. Honor is also introducing a new Dual View feature, which lets users record video from both the main camera and the telephoto at the same time.
The third camera is a 12MP ultra-wide angle sensor, but Honor says this is actually meant for video. The camera uses a custom 16:9 sensor, and it also has 5-axis electronics image stabilization so you can record wide-angle videos that are still pretty smooth.
There's a lot of details that Honor didn't reveal, including pricing or the RAM and storage configurations. However, the phone will be available in select markets starting in March.
Honor also revealed the 9X Pro, which despite being a mid-range smartphone, got more attention during the event. It's a successor to last year's Honor 9X, and one of the biggest advantages is in the chipset. The 9X Pro uses the Kirin 810 instead of the Kirin 710, and it promises 75% more single-core performance, 40% better multi-core performance, and a massive 175% increase in GPU performance. It's also much more power-efficient than the Kirin 710. The phone also packs a 4,000mAh battery to keep this running.
The Honor 9X Pro also has a triple-camera setup, but it uses a 48MP main camera instead of Honor's custom 40MP sensor. Additionally, it has an 8MP ultra-wide camera and a 2MP camera for additional depth sensing, so there's no telephoto lens. Honor has added a new Super Night Mode, though, promising better low-light performance, thanks in part to the increased processing power. There's also a 16MP front-facing pop-up camera for selfies.
Another interesting part of the Honor 9X Pro is the design, with a 6.59-inch FullView display with no notch or cutout and a 92% screen-to-body ratio. On the back, there's an X-shaped pattern that reflects light in different ways underneath the glass.
The Honor 9X Pro will be available purple and black in select markets in March, and it will cost €249. It packs 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage at that price.
