Earlier this week, Microsoft started rolling out the Windows 10 May 2020 Update to all supported Windows 10 users. The update comes with new features and improvements including a new Cortana app for Windows 10 users.
While Microsoft released the first 20H1 Insider build almost 15 months ago, the update still has some known bugs. Microsoft has catalogued these bugs on its Known issues page but some users have reported facing issues with the new Cortana app. Microsoft has not added the Cortana issue to the Known issues page but if you are getting the "Sorry, but Cortana is not available at this time" message, then you can follow the steps below to fix the issue:
- Click on the Cortana icon on the taskbar and sign in using your Microsoft Account
- If you receive the error message, head to the Microsoft Store and search for "Cortana". You can use this link to directly open Cortana's listing in the Store
- Click on the 'Get' button to download and install the Cortana app
- Once downloaded, click again on the Cortana icon in the taskbar and sign in using your Microsoft Account
This should fix the issue and you should be able to use Cortana. Do note that this is just a workaround and Microsoft is expected to patch the bug in the future. The new Cortana app is currently available in 13 countries and nine languages.
