If you're a professional designer or filmmaker, you're likely to need very accurate colour representation, which is why dedicated, often quite expensive, solutions exist. HP has now unveiled its latest additions to the DreamColor lineup, targeted at the aforementioned professionals.
Aiming at both the more affordable as well as enthusiast / professional ends of the spectrum, at NAB 2017, HP presented the second generation of its 24-inch, more affordable Z24x G2 DreamColor display, along with its significantly more expensive sibling, the 31-inch Z31x DreamColor Studio monitor.
In terms of the features touted, the Z24x G2, beyond its lower price, displays more than 1 billion colours, covers 99% of the Adobe RGB colour space, and offers calibration software which is compatible with both X-Rite i1Display Pro and Klein Instruments K10-A colorimeters.
The Z31x DreamColor Studio Display on the other hand, at its hefty asking price, offers a true 10-bit Real IPS panel, also with more than 1 billion colours, has a built-in pop-up colorimeter which can calibrate the display automatically, at set intervals or on demand, and covers 99% of the DCIP3 colour space. Perhaps even more appealing for those using multiple computers are the display's other nifty tricks:
The HP Z31x is designed with the features demanded by industry-leading digital creators: an integrated KVM (keyboard/video/mouse) switch, True 2K viewing, markers and masks, and much more. The built-in KVM of the HP Z31x can switch between two computers with a quick keyboard shortcut, allowing the user to share one display, keyboard and mouse between two computers. Many artists have two computers, a Linux® box with their animation/compositing app and a Windows® box with Adobe® Photoshop or internet access.
For the night owls out there, the company has got you covered:
Users can minimize distractions with auto dimming front buttons and select between red lights for minimal impact to night vision, or turn off completely for a distraction free environment.
