Today, AMD announced its latest graphics cards for workstations, the Radeon Pro W5500 and W5500M. As you'd expect, OEMs are starting to line up to say that they'll be including the new GPU in their products, starting with HP. The company will offer its ZBook 17 G6 with a Radeon Pro W5500M, an 85W GPU with 4GB GDDR6.
The ZBook 17 G6 was originally announced back in May, and it was released in July. With a 17-inch screen, it's the biggest mobile workstation from HP, and that means that it's the most powerful. It includes a 45W CPU, either a Xeon E 2286M or up to a Core i9-9880H, and options for various GPUs, such as Nvidia's Quadro RTX 5000 with 16GB GDDR6.
The 17.3-inch display comes with up to a 4K UHD resolution, something that's incredibly rare in 17-inch laptops. Most of them are 1080p because frankly, 17-inch 4K displays are scarce.
Today's addition of the Radeon Pro W5500M adds a bit of diversity to the configuration options, as you don't need to pick an Nvidia GPU anymore, so that's always good. AMD says that the W5500M is coming this spring, so that's when we can expect to see it in the ZBook 17.
