HTC reports higher profits in latest quarter

Smartphone maker HTC reported a mixed earnings report today for its third quarter financial results. On the good side, Businessweek.com reports that the company recorded record profits of NT$18.6 billion ($608 million). That's an increase of 68 percent compared to the same time period a year ago. On the other hand HTC also stated it brought in revenues of NT$135.8 billion for the quarter. While those numbers were 79 percent higher than a year ago, they were lower that HTC's own expectations of NT$137 billion. HTC doesn't provide details about its financial numbers but will provide smartphone shipment numbers and its expectations for the current fourth quarter later in October.

HTC has seen a lot more interest in its Android-based smartphones over the past year. Today the company announced its newest such phone, the HTC Sensation XL, a 4.7 inch device that's designed for audiophiles thanks to its Beats Audio system. It also has a 1.5 Ghz processor, an eight megapixel camera, 768 MB of RAM, 16 GB of storage and more. It's scheduled to be released in Europe, Asia and the Middle East this November but there's no word on when or if it will show up in the US.

HTC is also one of the biggest sellers of smartphones based on Windows Phone 7. The newest such phone, the HTC Radar 4G, is scheduled to be made available in the US, via T-Mobile. While T-Mobile has yet to reveal a release date, online rumors have the HTC Radar 4G going on sale on November 2.
