In September, Google announced its latest handsets to showcase its most recent Android update, Android 6.0 / Marshmallow. The Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X were two welcome options, compared to Motorola's high priced Nexus 6 offered the previous year. A few weeks into 2016, the rumor mill has begun churning out speculation in regards to this year's Nexus smartphone, with HTC looking to be the front runner for this year's devices.
The rumor comes via a reliable tipster in the Weibo community, that states HTC will helm the production of two Nexus devices. To lend a little more credence to the rumor, another well-known tipster with a relatively stable track record, @LlabTooFeR, has chimed in with the alleged code names for the upcoming two Nexus devices, the T50 and T55. The numbers are meant to denote the screen size of each device with the T50 offering a 5.0-inch display and the T55 with a larger 5.5-inch offering.
Naturally, this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to rumors and as time passes more things will begin to solidify. But, for now, we will have to take this information with a bit of skepticism and see how it plays out. HTC has produced Nexus devices in the past and would be no newcomer to the rodeo. In fact, HTC was the first device manufacturer to be tapped by Google to create a Nexus device. But, that was a long time ago when HTC was at the top of it's game with their most recent Nexus contribution being the Nexus 9.
