HTC has sent out invites for a launch event in China scheduled for the January 15, but the smartphone that is alleged to be announced at the event has already been leaked by Evan Blass, along with hardware specifications.
The mid-range smartphone will reportedly be branded as the U11 EYEs, which is somewhat of a resurrection of the EYE branding that we first saw with the One M8 EYE and Desire EYE over three years ago. Despite a scheduled launch in 2018, HTC is said to have used the Snapdragon 652 chipset, which is two years old now.
According to Blass, some of the hardware specifications of the U11 EYEs are as follows:
- 6-inch Super LCD3 screen with FullHD+ and 18:9 aspect ratio
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 octa-core chipset
- 4 GB RAM, 64 GB internal storage and support for microSD cards
- USB Type-C connector
- 3930 mAh battery
- IP67-rated water and dust protection
- Rear-mounted fingerprint sensor
- Edge sense
- Android Nougat
On the imaging front, we do not about the device's cameras and the EYEs branding could be something related to its capabilities in this area.
The device will be available in three colors - black, silver and red - and is expected to be priced at 3,300 yuan ($550). We should know more about the final pricing and availability of the smartphone once the company concludes its January 15 event in China.
