HTC rolled out the Viveport Subscription program last year that gave HTC Vive virtual reality headset owners access to a pool of apps from the Viveport store, from which, subscribers could select five apps per month to go on their virtual reality escapades. Since its introduction, the service has grown to offer more than 375 titles, and came with a monthly price tag of $6.99. But HTC announced today that the cost will be going up next month.
Starting on March 22, new Viveport Subscriptions will cost $8.99 per month. However, all existing subscribers and anyone who joins the program before the aforementioned date will get to continue paying $6.99 per month at least until the end of this year.
Also, the Viveport Subscription is getting bolstered with a couple of new perks. First off, Beginning in February, subscribers will receive free games and apps at regular intervals. Next, the weekend discounts that the Viveport Store has been making available to all users will now be exclusive to subscribers. HTC plans to introduce more subscriber benefits in the future.
The company did not elaborate on why is the subscription price being raised, only saying that "We believe Viveport Subscription is the absolute best value offering in VR today, and we want to make sure you get the best value."
