Hyper Light Drifter is free to claim today on the Epic Games Store, marking the ninth day of the 12 Days of Free Games event.
Those who keep a keen eye on these giveaways would realize that Hyper Light Drifter is a repeat, just like Celeste was two days ago. It was given away in August as a bonus game with Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden.
A 2D action RPG, Hyper Light Drifter features an art style inspired by the 90s’ 16-bit titles. Originating as a Kickstarter project that garnered over $600,000, the game saw a release in 2016, received with praise for its visuals, sound design, as well as gameplay mechanics. Here’s how the Epic Games Store describes the title:
Echoes of a dark and violent past resonate throughout a savage land, steeped in treasure and blood. Hyper Light Drifter is an action adventure RPG in the vein of the best 16bit classics, with modernized mechanics and designs on a much grander scale.
Epic Games Store is offering the game for players on Windows, though it’s also available for macOS and Linux via Steam, where it is discounted to $9.99 at the time of writing. Here are the minimum requirements:
Windows
- OS: Windows 7 and above
- Processor: 1.2 GHz
- Memory: 4 GB RAM
- Graphics: 512 mb video memory (DirectX 10)
- Storage: 2 GB available space
Hyper Light Drifter is available to claim at its store page. Epic Coupon is also available for the ongoing holiday sale, discounting any game that’s priced above $14.99 and not a pre-order by $10. Hyper Light Drifter will be available to claim for free until tomorrow 11AM ET.
