At the top of the year, Hyperkin debuted its Ultraboy at CES 2018. While it has been quite some time, the company still hasn't released it to the public but did show it off once again during E3 2018. As you can see from the images and video, quite a bit has changed since January.
The Ultraboy has a similar form factor to Nintendo's Game Boy Pocket but does come in a bit thicker to accommodate the knob, which can be seen on the right side of the frame. If things are still on track from its plans at CES, the knob could also be used to cycle through different color options when it comes to illumination of the display.
While early generation Game Boys required AA or AAA batteries, the Hyperkin model will have a rechargeable battery and utilize a USB Type-C port for charging. This device will not have games built-in, so you will need to either unearth your own Game Boy and Game Boy Color cartridges or purchase them. Those looking for an easier setup might want to wait for the rumored Nintendo re-release of the Game Boy.
