Microsoft's new iteration of the Xbox One console went on sale only a week ago, but already the 2TB Xbox One S is becoming a rare commodity. It's sold out in many places, and Microsoft has now confirmed that it will not be replenishing stock.
According to the company, the 2TB model was only meant to be produced in limited quantities as the Launch Edition. Microsoft will now be directing those that want a console with 2TB of onboard storage to the upcoming Gears of War 4 bundle, which you can pre-order now and is slated to arrive in October.
A Microsoft spokesperson issued the following statement to Neowin:
The 2TB Xbox One S was released as a special launch edition in limited quantities only. We’re thrilled at the amount of interest we’ve received and we are always looking for opportunities to offer choice and fantastic value to our fans. Please check with your local retailer to determine whether the 2TB Xbox One S is still available in your market. You can also pre-order the Xbox One S ‘Gears of War 4’ 2TB Limited Edition bundle now at microsoftstore.com and other select retailers. We’ve also recently announced the Xbox One S ‘Madden NFL 17’ 1TB Bundle for fans in the U.S. and Canada and the Xbox One S Halo Collection 500GB and 1TB Bundles for fans in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand. All three bundles will be available starting Aug. 23 and we will have more to share on future bundles in more markets in the coming weeks.
Of course, you can still get your hands on the Launch Edition in some places. The US Microsoft Store website still has stock, and it offers a free game. Over in the UK, the shortage of supply is increasing the price from retailers. On Amazon UK, the console can be found for £469.90.
Nevertheless, if you want one, you should get it now. It's not going to get any easier to find. Of course, there are plenty more models coming, including 500GB and 1TB variants, as well as a number of bundles.
