In its ongoing crusade against Snapchat, Instagram is preparing a new portrait mode feature behind the scenes.
Revealed via a single .png image inside the newest Instagram Android app's APK file, this feature is likely to enable the same background-blurring effect that the stock camera apps on the newest iPhones and Pixel devices provide, though this isn't a fully refined effect yet.
Instagram has of late been busy adding to its feature-set, and some might say they're adding too much, given recent news regarding the social media's efforts to include video calling in its app, and a separate app altogether for Direct Messages. There's a fine line between a service with a rich offering, and unnecessary bloat, with Facebook's Messenger platform being an example of a quick and unfortunate devolution into the latter.
