Intel desktop price cuts slated for next week

The Inquirer is reporting that the Intel plans on slashing prices for its desktop processors. This price cut is expected to be announced by Intel on August 22nd. It should also be noted that AMD will most likely announce a similar price drop(as they often do). If, however, they dont, it would be a go indicator that AMD may be in the position to command a bit of a premium for its products.

Intel will issue price cuts on almost all of its processors, such as the LGA 775 and 478 pin Prescott's, and its Celeron/Celeron "D" processors. In most cases, this price cut will be pretty substantial. In quantities of 1,000, you can get Intel's 560 processors for $417 compared to the old price of $637. On the Celeron front, price drops won't be as big as Prescott's, but still a decent price drop of $8, on average.

These price drops are right on time for one of the busiest parts of the computer sales calendar (back to school). This is the time of the year that all computer companies look forward to - be it Intel, AMD, Dell, or Apple.
