CHIP GIANT INTEL is pushing ahead with its plans to populate the lower echelons of the desktop world with Celerons based on the Pentium 4 design that will be cheaper than ever. On May 25th, it will slash prices on its 2.4GHz, 2.3GHz, 2.2GHz and 2.1GHz Celerons to $85, $79, $74 and $74 respectively, but inspecting the intestines of the latest roadmap it appears that's just the precursor for the introduction of 2.5GHz and 2.6GHz Celerons.
Those are currently set to be released on June 25th next, priced at $89 and $102 respectively. The move means that the 2.1GHz Celeron at $74 is ready to shuffle off the CPU coil, a fact that's also true for the 2GHz and 1.8GHz Celerons as well.
There are also some changes to the prices of Intel's Springdale chipsets, the 865G with RAID, the 865PE with RAID and the 865P with RAID. Those, at their launch on the 21st of May, will cost $44, $39 and $36 respectively.
