Intel is expected to lower prices of some 865, 848 and 845 chipsets as planned on March 28, prior to volume deliveries of its 915 chipsets scheduled at the end of April, according to sources at Taiwan's motherboard makers. The reductions, Intel's first this year, come as two Taiwanese chipset makers – VIA Technologies and Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) – have recently raised prices for entry-level chipsets.
The US chip giant also plans to cut prices of the 865PE, 865GV and 848P chipsets again on June 27, according to the sources. Intel, however, will keep the prices for its 865G and 845G chipsets unchanged, the sources said.
