We're just a few days away from Apple introducing its next generation of iPhones, which is going to be called the iPhone 12 series. As usual, all of the details of the devices are leaking ahead of the event, and thanks to a Weibo post (via 9to5Mac), we even know pricing and availability.
First of all, a big feature for all four devices is going to be Dolby Vision video recording. This is a big deal, as Qualcomm has been pointing out Apple's limitations in recording HDR video for a while. All four are also getting Super Retina XDR displays with Ceramic Shield Front Covers. Also, while all four are getting 5G, this will apparently only be used when it's necessary for better battery life.
The smallest one, which comes with a 5.4-inch display, is called the iPhone 12 mini, and then there's a 6.1-inch iPhone 12 that's more of a successor to the iPhone 11. They both come in black, white, red, blue, and green, and in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage variants. They have two cameras, one of which is standard and one of which is ultra-wide, just like their predecessor.
The iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 will start at $699 and $799, respectively. Pre-orders for the mini kick off on November 6, and it will be available on November 13. The iPhone 12 can be pre-ordered next Friday (October 16), with availability the week after.
Next up is the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max, which come in gold, silver, graphite, and blue. Pricing remains the same at $999 and $1,099, with storage tiers at 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB.
They're getting camera improvements, and this time, the iPhone 12 Pro Max is actually getting a better camera than the iPhone 12 Pro. They both hand a standard, ultra-wide, and telephoto lenses with LiDAR, but the telephoto has a 52mm focal length for the Pro and 65mm focal length for the Pro Max. In total, the iPhone 12 Pro will support 4x optical zoom while the Pro Max will support 5x optical zoom.
Like the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 Pro will be available for pre-order starting next Friday, with availability the week after that. The iPhone 12 Pro Max is coming later, with pre-orders kicking off on November 13 and availability on November 20.
