IO Interactive, the studio most well known for its Hitman series of stealth sandbox games is taking on a new IP that involves another highly skilled operative, but a much less bald one. The studio announced today that it has begun the development of a new James Bond title. See the teaser above.
As can be expected, the working title for the game is Project 007, and it will explore an original story that dives into Bond's origin, possibly covering his early escapades as an Intelligence Agent for MI6. The game will be built on IO Interactive's own Glacier engine that powers its Hitman series. This being a third-person stealth title is likely.
"Creating an original Bond game is a monumental undertaking and I truly believe that IO Interactive, working closely with our creative partners at EON and MGM, can deliver something extremely special for our players and communities," said IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak. "Our passionate team is excited to unleash their creativity into the iconic James Bond universe and craft the most ambitious game in the history of our studio."
A release window isn't attached to the title yet, but Project 007 will be released on PC and consoles. The game is in development at IO's Copenhagen and Malmö offices, and both locations are actively recruiting more developers for help with the high profile project. IO Interactive is also preparing to launch Hitman 3 in January 2021.
