Microsoft's Kinect motion controller camera for its Xbox 360 console has been a big seller since its launch in November of 2010 and the company has a lot of Kinect-based Xbox 360 games in the works from both first and third parties. However the Kinect controller itself has also been improved via software since it first went on sale, according to the company. In a chat with Eurogamer, the Xbox senior product manager David Dennis stated, " ... a lot of that tech is the advancements we've made in the accuracy, the tracking."
One of the updates is the finger tracking support that was seen earlier this month at E3 2011 with live demos of upcoming games such as Ghost Recon Future Soldier. Dennis states, " ... he was using his hand to fire in the firing range mode. I think that's the kind of thing we're going to continue to iterate on."
More updates and improvements can be expected to be made available for both the Xbox 360 console and the Kinect controller via software downloads. According to Dennis, "that's the beauty of Xbox. We've been doing that with Xbox 360, starting three or four years ago - continuing to deploy new software updates to improve the functionality, like enabling finger tracking and voice search, and also to bring new partners like Netflix on." He added, "There are already people working on things for next year and the year after inside our secret bunkers, and we'll continue to bring amazing stuff that consumers love."
