It's been an interesting week for Riot Games. Last weekend, the game developer had to delay play of its official League of Legends world championship playoffs in Los Angeles due to Internet connection issues. Later, the publisher fined one of the tournament's teams $30,000 for cheating during matches.
This week, Riot Games seems to want to show that, despite its recent tournament issues, League of Legends is still a highly popular game. It released a massive infographic with a ton of stats about the free-to-play action-RTS game. The biggest number is that there are now 32 million active monthly players for League of Legends, well ahead of the "mere" 11 million monthly players the game had in November 2011.
In addition, the company said there are a whopping 12 million daily active players and it can reach three million players at once on Riot Games' servers. The company claims that all of this data shows that League of Legends is now the most played video game in the world, by hours played per month.
Riot Games is reportedly working on its next game project, but so far the company has yet to reveal any details.
