Lenovo's VP, Chang Cheng tantalised fans last week with news of an incoming flagship smartphone, the Lenovo Z5. The smartphone will be launching on June 5, as shared this morning on Weibo.
This smartphone promises to be the first, true, all-screen phone on the market, should Lenovo's hype not merely be marketing puff. Cheng put up illustrations of a phone (pictured above) with the front of the phone being nigh all screen. The device was claimed to feature a screen to body ratio of 95 percent and shows no bezel in the sketch or partial image shared on Weibo.
To quantify this in terms of the current market-leading smartphones, the iPhone X has a screen to body ratio of 81.2%, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 has a ratio of 82.3% and the Galaxy S9 - 84.9%.
While the Vivo Apex does have an insanely high screen to body ratio approaching 98%, it remains a concept phone with no immediate plans to launch.
Aside from the novel screen to body ratio, the smartphone is also said to launch with 4TB of storage and 45 days of standby time. If the firm manages to actually deliver on its ambitious claims, one might imagine the Lenovo Z5 to be 2018's surprise frontrunner in the smartphone wars.
