Lenovo's ThinkPad E490 sits on the lower end of the lineup. It's designed for small businesses that want the signature ThinkPad features, but don't have the budget to start shelling out the high-end ones.
Those features include things like a great keyboard, solid performance, and more. Like all ThinkPads, the E490 stands up against 12 MIL-STD-810G tests, meaning that it's pretty rugged and can handle humidity, extreme temperatures, sand, dust, and more.
The model that Lenovo sent me includes an Intel Core i5-8250U, 8GB RAM, and a 500GB HDD. Naturally, you can configure it with a Core i7-8565U, 16GB RAM, and an SSD if you want the boost. But then again, if you're shelling out for the extras, you're probably looking at a higher-end ThinkPad.
This device is made out of aluminum and plastic, weighing in at 3.87 pounds. It's heavier than most other ThinkPads - at least those without dedicated GPUs - but it starts at just $577. Check out our unboxing video below:
