Problems with early builds of Windows 10 for phones prevented the operating system from being released on more devices in its first public preview, but the company is working on supporting more devices in time.
Microsoft's first preview for Windows 10 on phones came to a limited range of devices, though Joe Belfiore, head of Windows product definition and design, said the company was hoping to support more devices. Responding to a question on Twitter, Belfiore said the preview will obviously still come to other devices, though some kinks need to be worked out.
Belfiore was specifically asked about the Lumia 1520, which is the device he has shown the operating system running on in promotional videos. According to Belfiore, however, the Lumia 1520 he used was an engineering phone, not a retail device.
@chief_tech @GabeAul ...we ARE working on 1520 and other phones. We were hoping to release more with 1st preview, but too many issues still.

Windows Phone users were quick to complain on Twitter regarding the preview not yet being available for a wide range of devices, but Belfiore said there were two options: release the first preview build early on a small amount of devices, or later when "fewer people would be left out." Gabriel Aul, who runs Microsoft's Windows 10 preview programs, also noted that the preview would brick unsupported devices.
When Belfiore polled Twitter users about whether they would prefer early releases on fewer devices or later releases on a wider range, the overwhelming majority said they preferred early releases.
