Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition is getting a brand new expansion soon named Lords of the West that will bring new civilizations, campaigns, and more to the popular real-time strategy title. The surprise announcement arrived today from the Definitive Edition developer Forgotten Empires, which went on to detail the contents of the new expansion.
Burgundians and Sicilians are the new factions, which have their own share of unique bonuses, units, and technologies much like the rest of the civilizations present in the game. For example, the Burgundians can research Vineyards to convert all its food to gold at a 2:1 ratio, and the Flemish Revolution technology will convert all Villagers into Flemish Militia, a unique Heavy infantry unit.
Sticking to the expansion's Western civilizations theme, Edward Longshanks, The Grand Dukes of the West, and The Hautevilles arrive as the latest fully-voiced single-player campaigns. There's are also 16 new achievements to earn that are primarily aimed at the new campaign levels.
This is not the first time the Definitive Edition of Age of Empires II has received new content, as at launch, the developer included a new campaign as well as three new civilizations. This is, however, the first premium DLC that has arrived for this edition.
The Lords of the West expansion launches on January 26, 2021, and is now available for pre-purchase via the Microsoft Store and Steam with a $9.99 price tag.
