Fans of the life simulation title, The Sims 4, noticed that last week's update to the PC version carried an undocumented change. The Insane lifestyle trait, which was introduced in The Sims 3, had been renamed to Erratic.
The change seems mainly in response to the "The Sims' Insane Trait Sucks" Kotaku article from last month, where the trait was criticized for poorly representing mental illness.
Commenting on the name change, an EA representative told PC Gamer:
"Our game celebrates life and the people in it. As language evolves, we want to take the steps needed to ensure players feel they can have a great time without distracting language that is not always current or appropriate. We made the change to better reflect the design of that Trait."
Other than replacing the name to Erratic, however, all other aspects of the former Insane trait remains the same, with Sims that have it still being able to talk to themselves to raise social needs, as well as experience positive and negative emotions at random. Even the torso wearing a straitjacket trait icon stays untouched, at least for now.
