Respawn Entertainment's upcoming virtual reality experience Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond received a release date during today's Facebook Connect keynote, December 11.
Even though the Oculus team has worked together with Respawn to develop this return of the classic franchise, surprisingly, the game isn't exclusive to Facebook platforms. Electronic Arts and Oculus confirmed today that the game will be available on the Oculus Store as well as Steam with OpenVR support. In addition to Rift headsets, the Oculus Quest and the newly announced Quest 2 will be able to play the title utilizing a Link cable that's connected to a VR ready PC.
Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond will feature multiplayer as well, but Respawn is yet to show off that portion of the title. Cross-platform play between the Oculus and Steam store versions will be enabled.
"The Medal of Honor franchise has always been a powerful series that tells the untold stories of war heroes, and from the beginning of this series in 1999, our goal has been to create grounded and emotionally authentic games that are true to the experiences of people that fought and lived through it," said Respawn Entertainment director Peter Hirschmann. "We're honored to share these moving first-hand stories from survivors and veterans of WWII and deliver an immersive VR gameplay experience that provides high-flying action and emotional, intimate storytelling in equal measure."
While no new footage of the game was released today, during the gamescom Opening Night Live event from last month, the developer showed off gameplay from the single-player campaign.
