Creative Assembly's historical PC RTS gets a taste of the Norse with expansion Viking Invasion.
The Medieval: Total War clock is set to turn to 790AD as Activision announces expansion Viking Invasion for the hit RTS. Based around the pillaging and plundering escapades of the Scandinavian bearded ones and other battle-touched parties of the history period, the add-on will introduce a new campaign set on the breezy plains of the British Isles.
Bloodying themselves on the fields of battle in Medieval: Total War - Viking Invasion will be the hardy Vikings, obviously, along with the likes of the Saxons, Scots, Irish, Welsh and Picts. In total, eight new factions will be screaming blood-curdling cries, crunching bones and laying siege to strongholds as the quest for domination of the British Isles ensues.
Viking Invasion's rampaging armies will include a number of historical heroes, the expansion also introducing new units in the shape of Viking Berserkers, Saxon Huscarles and Fyrdmen and a new heavy weapon, the Organ Gun. Core gameplay gets a look in as well thanks to a pre-battle screen that allows players to plan reinforcements and scout enemy formations before committing to the battlefield.
Talking about Viking Invasion, Creative Assembly's Tim Ansell commented that, "We felt the era of Nordic raiders offered the perfect opportunity to add new flavours to the Medieval: Total War experience. Players can now sweep west from Scandinavia to raid, pillage and conquer just as they did over 1200 years ago."
Medieval: Total War - Viking Invasion is due for release in spring 2003.
