It's finally here. Team Fortress 2 fans have been waiting a long time for this moment and today Valve delivers with the release of Meet The Pyro. This is the final (for now, anyway) short film spotlighting one of the characters in Valve's multiplayer shooter. We will let the video speak for itself.
Even bigger news was revealed today when Valve announced that it will be releasing Source Filmmaker to the general public. This is the software tool used to make all of the Team Fortress 2 short movies, combined with the game's Source Engine. Valve states:
Because the SFM uses the same assets as the game, anything that exists in the game can be used in the movie, and vice versa. By utilizing the hardware rendering power of a modern gaming PC, the SFM allows storytellers to work in a what-you-see-is-what-you-get environment so they can iterate in the context of what it will feel like for the final audience.
You can check out a video showing off what the Source Filmmaker can do above. You can go ahead and head to the SFM website and sign up to join the closed beta version. It will be released to the general public sometime later this year.
