Messenger has announced that it is launching an in-app activity, Pledge Planets, to aid kids in making healthy online decisions and staying safe. The latest resource has been developed in collaboration with Meta's Youth Advisors, and will allow kids to "explore different planets based on the tenets of the Messenger Kids Pledge."
While kids explore the planets, they will help characters manage different social situations and come to a decision that will bring positive consequences. According to the press release, this activity will enable children to realize that their positive actions can have a huge impact on others.
Furthermore, the press release stated:
Digital citizenship is an important skill for kids to learn as they begin spending time online. Before kids start using Messenger Kids, they are introduced to the Messenger Kids Pledge—Be Kind, Be Respectful, Be Safe, Have Fun—to help shape what could be their first online messaging experience. Pledge Planets builds on this commitment, helping kids practice their digital citizenship skills in a more relatable, fun and engaging way.
Starting today, kids will be able to experience the first episode, Be Kind, in the countries where Messenger Kids is available. The Be Kind episode brings a social situation where the sandwich shop owner is facing difficulty interacting with customers. This episode will have two different games that will help kids learn and practice kindness.
New episodes will put the spotlight on other pledges and will be arriving soon. To practice digital citizenship skills, kids will need to select Pledge Planets from the Explore tab.
