Meta has announced that it is putting an end to its Express Wi-Fi program after over five years in operation. This program had been developed to expand public Wi-Fi access for users in over 30 countries through collaborations with its partners. However, with the end of the program nearing, the tech giant says that it will continue to work with partners across the telecom ecosystem to offer an enhanced connectivity experience for its users and focus on developing other projects around internet access.
Express Wi-Fi is a cloud-based, comprehensive SaaS management platform that was developed by Meta Connectivity and launched in 2016. It integrates existing networks and offers "better network utilization and sustainability, direct and indirect service monetization, and faster time to market." Moreover, it provides operators with a comprehensive set of online tools and apps and gives access to its vendor ecosystem partners as well.
It was built with the aim to enable mobile and satellite operators, and internet service providers to boost and monetize their Wi-Fi businesses in a manner that was scalable and sustainable along with delivering inexpensive and reliable internet access over Wi-Fi to their customers.
The company says that it will work closely with its Express Wi-Fi partners and help mitigate the impact to their businesses and their customer's connectivity as it concludes work on the program later this year.
