Microsoft announced today that it will feature a custom Gears of War 2 branded Zune, retailing for $279.99, and that pre-orders would be accepted today at both Walmart.com and Amazon.com.
"This special edition Zune is a great way for 'Gears of War' fans to carry around all their music and videos while sharing their enthusiasm for the game," said Michael Capps, president of Epic Games.
The Zune is a black, 120GB model, with a Crimson Omen logo laser etched onto the back and special wallpaper inside the Zune interface. It also features a collectors edition box with artwork from the game and 244 pieces of Gears of War media including the original game soundtrack, behind the scenes videos, game trailers and concept art.
In addition to Walmart and Amazon in the United States, Canadians can pre-order from Amazon.ca, BestBuy.ca, FutureShop.ca and TheSource.ca. Customers who pre-order should expect shipment starting on November 7, the same day Gears of War 2 will be available.
Microsoft recently refreshed the Zune line up with a new color (blue), larger storage sizes (additional 16GB and 120GB models) and an upgrade to the desktop software and firmware. Back in spring of 2007, Microsoft released a Halo 3 special edition Zune 30 with similar features.
