Microsoft today announced a few new improvements coming to the Collections feature in the Edge browser. The biggest change is that Collections now features a new UI, akin to the redesigned History and Favorites menu. The company also announced that there is a new experience for Downloads, something that we spotted earlier today.
Just like the History, Download, and Favorites section, the Collection menu now hovers from the toolbar and does not pin to the side of the browser automatically. Those that want the pane to stay pinned to the browser can manually use the pin icon to place it permanently. The new UI greatly improves the feature and makes it easy and faster to add items to a Collection or access saved links.
Another nifty feature being added to the utility is a new “+” icon that allows users to add the current webpage right from the pop-up menu by hovering over the desired Collection item, negating the need to perform multiple clicks. The icon also shows up on Collections lists when the pane is pinned to the browser window.
The refreshed UI also retains all the functionality of the tool, such as the ability to send lists to OneNote and Excel, Pinterest integration, and the price comparison feature. These options are present in the ellipsis menu as before. Users can – like before – also add notes into Collections directly via the notes icon.
The new Collections and Downloads improvements are now rolling out to Edge users running Canary and Dev channel builds. There is no word on when the improvements will make it to the Beta channel and, eventually, the Stable version.
