The Lumia 640 and 640 XL were leaked yesterday by Microsoft themselves but Microsoft's presentation at the Mobile World Congress 2015 has just shed some light on further details about the smartphones. As we expected: the smartphones are not exactly flagships but that doesn't mean they're completely uninteresting.
The specs include:
- 5" 720p IPS display, Corning Gorilla Glass 3
- 1.2 Ghz Quad-Core Snapdragon 400 SoC
- 2500 mAh battery
- Cyan, black, white and orange color variations
- Single SIM, double SIM variations
- 3G/LTE variations
- Latest Lumia camera software
- 8 MP rear camera, wide angle lens
- 1 MP front camera
- 8 GB internal storage
The 640 XL shares most of the same specs as above but in a physically larger design, having a larger 5.7 MP screen and a larger 3000 mAh battery. It also has a different set of cameras: the 640 XL has a 13 MP front-facing camera with a ZEISS optics lens and a 5 MP selfie cam. The phones will ship with Windows Phone 8.1 with Denim but should receive a Windows 10 upgrade when it's ready.
Prices for the 3G variations start at €139 for the Lumia 640 and €189 for Lumia 640 XL, and the 4G LTE variations are €159 for the Lumia 640 and €219 for the 640 XL. T-Mobile and various others should be stocking the device. All purchases of the 640 and 640 XL include a free year of Office 365.
We expect to see Microsoft's high-tier smartphones revealed later on in the press conference. In the meantime, you can stream the conference live right here on Neowin!
Update: The conference has now ended and no high-tier smartphones were announced, unfortunately. You can check out the official page for the Lumia 640 and 640 XL here and here respectively.
