The crew over at Slashdot got a pretty good scoop on what's new from Microsoft. Apparently Microsoft is considering bringing back the Internet Explorer development team. If you remember a while back Microsoft announced that it had stopped development of IE as a standalone product. That it would only offer IE improvements via new releases of its next generation OS Longhorn.
A Mozilla developer (Gervase Markham) pointed out on his weblog that Microsoft is thinking about bringing back the IE team. Why this is definitely a shock it also raises new questions. When Microsoft announced the bad news about IE they seemed certain about their decision. What could have changed Microsoft's mind in such a short time? My guess is that Microsoft saw how many new and exciting features where coming out from other browser developers. Especially how much attention Mozilla's web browser's Firefox and Mozilla were getting.
