Microsoft has announced that the launch of Azure Sphere's latest version has been canceled. The update that was going to be rolled out to Azure Sphere users would have been Azure Sphere OS version 22.01.
Previously, this version was set to be released for general availability on the 26th of January. However, Microsoft failed to release it on the scheduled day, stating that the new version did not pass quality control. It also confirmed that a problem in the Retail Eval channel led to the cancellation of the 22.01 release.
Commenting on the cancellation, Microsoft stated:
During the evaluation period for 22.01, a customer reported intermittent network connection failures during the OS update process when using the ENC28J60 Ethernet interface for Internet connectivity. To adhere to our quality standards, we are cancelling the 22.01 release while we investigate this.
Furthermore, it pointed out that the updates that were going to come with the 22.01 version were minor and none of them were critical security updates. Microsoft has also stated that the Retail Eval feed will continue to deliver version 22.01 until the next version rolls out.
Although the 22.01 release will not be coming, the tech giant has assured Azure Sphere users that version 22.02 will be launched in almost three weeks.
