Microsoft cut the WinFS file system and PC-to-PC synchronization from Windows Vista, but the company says there are at least 10 key reasons for partners to push the upgraded desktop operating system to their SMB customers. In a recent briefing with CRN, Kevin Kutz, director of Windows Marketing Communications for Microsoft, said the three major value propositions of Vista are improved searching and organizing, enhanced security and advanced connectivity features.
He cited 10 key features of Vista of interest to partners serving the SMB crowd. Among them were improved visual fidelity, enhanced search and find features, including QuickSearch and Search Explorer, a Windows Mobility Center with synchronization capabilities and a new Help System.
Additionally, on the security front, Vista offers several new security features including user account control, Internet Explorer running in protected mode, a full volume encryption feature called BitLocker, Windows Defender integrated spyware, and 400 new group policy objects that enable partners and IT professionals to design a more custom, secure desktop settings for their customers.
