In 2010, Yahoo and Microsoft's Bing entered a partnership that intended to help both companies grow their search business in an effort to gain traction on Google. Unfortunately, not much has changed over the past five years, with Microsoft and Yahoo looking to either renegotiate terms or dissolve the partnership.
While the initial partnership was intended to last ten years, Yahoo and Microsoft did leave room for negotiations allowing for changes or flat out termination of the the arrangement after five years. Although negotiations were to have concluded 30 days after February 23rd, Yahoo and Microsoft have still not reached an agreement and have both agreed to extend the negotiation deadline by 60 days.
Although we won't know the outcome until possibly a month from now, it will be interesting to see how the current CEO's of both companies handle a partnership that was crafted by their predecessors. Both, Yahoo and Microsoft have made dramatic changes since the partnership was originally forged in 2010.
