Microsoft's Surface Book is a rather impressive device, but it's not exactly budget-friendly. Even the cheapest model is priced at $1,499, and doesn't include the discrete GPU option offered on higher-end models in the range.
But you can get a Surface Book for a lot less, if you're willing to buy a refurbished model. As you would expect, Microsoft sets the prices for its Certified Refurbished Surface Books considerably lower than those for its new models - but it's currently offering the refurbished devices at even lower prices than usual:
Model | Full price (new) |
Usual price (refurbished) |
Current price (refurbished) |
Intel Core i5 8GB RAM / 128GB SSD |
$1,499 | $1,149 | $883 |
Intel Core i5 8GB RAM / 256GB SSD / dGPU |
$1,899 | $1,489 | $1,144 |
Intel Core i7 8GB RAM / 256GB SSD / dGPU |
$2.099 | $1,789 | $1,374 |
Intel Core i7 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD / dGPU |
$2,699 | $2,299 | $1,766 |
The Certified Refurbished Surface Books come with a one-year limited warranty, but they're otherwise identical to their brand-new counterparts. Microsoft is only offering refurbished versions of its 'original' Surface Book range; the newer Surface Book with Performance Base models are not yet available in refurbished form.
