Microsoft has a suite of Bing map applications on its various platforms and it looks like they are currently testing an updated app that will soon make its way out for public testing. While we do not have a date for when this will occur, if you check out this URL here, you can see the early signs of the preview coming together.
Microsoft's mapping service goes head-to-head with Google's own mapping service with each having their own unique set of features. For Microsoft, maps is a big part of their mobile strategy of making sure that they have competing products for every service that Google offers. Seeing as Google has shown no interest in porting their products to any Windows platform, Bing maps plays a big role for all Windows devices.
We are hearing that this page is relatively new and still coming tougher, which is quite obvious seeing as the page does not fully work yet. The signup page appears to be here although that page is not live at the moment.
It's not a surprise by any means that Microsoft is working on a new Bing maps app which will likely launch with Windows 10. Seeing as Windows 10 will arrive this summer, this app should enter the public preview stage in the near future so that it is ready for prime time later this year.
Thanks for the tip McGough!
