Microsoft is holding an event on October 2, where it's expected to refresh its range of Surface PCs. As usual, we'll see a new Surface Pro, and we're expecting to see a new Surface Laptop as well. But according to a report from WinFuture, the Redmond firm is planning to launch a 15-inch Surface Laptop 3, alongside of the 13.5-inch one, giving Laptop the same display configurations that Surface Book 2 has.
The 15-inch Laptop 3 will keep the 3:2 aspect ratio and pen support that's always been offered from the Surface Laptop. Not much else is known about the product, such as the specs. It's unclear if Microsoft is going to go for something beefy like a Dell XPS 15, or if it's just going to be a larger ultrabook.
If the Redmond company goes the beefy route, opting for a more powerful CPU and dedicated graphics, it could compete with the Surface Book, validating rumors that there won't be a refresh on the two-year-old Surface Book 2 this year. What's also interesting is that rumors have been floating around for an AMD-based Surface Laptop since last November. One of AMD's new 35W H-series APUs could make sense in such a product, and perhaps Microsoft will stick with Intel in the smaller model.
Either way, we'll find out for sure in a few weeks. The event is at 10am Eastern Time on October 2 in New York City, and we'll be there. Make sure to check back for more news.
