Microsoft is offering significant savings to students who like to work hard and play hard, with chunky discounts available to those who purchase one of its newest Surface devices with an Xbox One.
The Surface + Xbox One Bundle for Students includes:
- A Surface Pro 4 tablet or Surface Book notebook
- An Xbox One console (the deal does not include the Xbox One S), plus an extra controller
- One of three free games
- $50 Microsoft Store gift code
According to the promo image on the Microsoft Store homepage, the bundle offers savings of $300...
...but the main Store listing for the bundle says that you can "save up to $499":
In practice, the potential savings appear much closer to that higher amount - and the good news for cash-strapped students is that you don't have to buy the most expensive bundle to enjoy some of the largest discounts available.
Buyers get to build their own bundle, choosing the options that suit their budgets and tastes. Here's an example of one of the most affordable combinations, based on the purchase of the entry-level Surface Pro 4:
Product | Regular price | Savings | Discounted price |
Surface Pro 4 Core m3 / 128GB / 4GB RAM |
$899 | $240 | $659 |
Xbox One Spring Bundle (1TB) | $349 | $110 | $239 |
Extra free game: The Crew | $29.99 | $29.99 | $0 |
Extra wireless controller | $59.99 | $59.99 | $0 |
$50 Microsoft Store gift code | $50 | $50 | $0 |
Total | $1,387.98 | $489.98 | $898 |
So even on one of the most inexpensive bundle combinations, you can save almost $500, a discount of around 35% off the regular price of these items.
The offer is available online and in Microsoft retail stores in the US (including Puerto Rico) and Canada - and of course, the offer is limited to students, parents and a limited range of staff and faculty associated with educational institutions.
The offer will remain available until August 14, 2016.
