In the summer of 2012, Microsoft announced it had acquired the business-themed social networking business Yammer for $1.2 billion. At the time, Microsoft said that Yammer had 5 million registered users. Today, Microsoft announced an update on how the Yammer division did in 2012.
In a press release, Microsoft said the number of its users has now gone up to over 7 million registered subscribers. It also said that sales for the full year of 2012 were triple that of 2011, and that fourth quarter 2012 sales were up by four times the amount from the same period a year ago.
Microsoft added that the number of paid Yammer users went up 165 percent in 2012. Specific sales numbers, as well as the specific amount of paid users in 2012, were not disclosed. It did say that Yammer added 290 new paying customers in the fourth quarter of 2012.
The Yammer business, which is part of the Office division at Microsoft, will be adding a number of features for its customers in the near future,. That will include adding SkyDrive Pro for data storage, a way to preview and edit files from within Yammer feeds by using Office Web Apps and more.
