A product package allowing ISPs (Internet service providers) to use Exchange for messaging services they offer their customers was launched Wednesday by Microsoft.
The offering, called Solution for High Volume Exchange, is based on Exchange Server 2000 and competes with products from Sun Microsystems, Sendmail and OpenWave Systems. Service providers can use the product to offer e-mail, calendaring and associated services to their customers, Microsoft said in a statement.
The Exchange-based product is meant for business end-users and allows ISPs to deliver more complex messaging capabilities, according to Microsoft. Additional capabilities include expanded e-mail storage space and support for second-level domains, Microsoft said.
