In larger organizations, timesheets are often a necessary tool to help track progress against project tasks, while also providing vital data to break down and track capital and operational expenditure.
Over the years, electronic timesheets have evolved from simple spreadsheets to the more tightly integrated project management solutions. However, Microsoft Project has long remained the tool of choice for many project management offices. Traditionally, it has been deployed as a desktop application but has been made available as a cloud service via Office 365 as 'Project Online' since 2013.
Microsoft is now seeking to leverage its online project management solution with a new app called Office 365 Project Time Reporter. At present, the app allows users to track and update the status of their assigned tasks, while also being able to add non-project and personal tasks to a timesheet. As an added convenience, timesheets can be saved for later update and submission for approval.
While the Office 365 Project Time Reporter app has only been released for iOS, Microsoft has mentioned that "Android and Windows Phone versions of the app will also be coming to the Google Play Store and Windows Store soon."
