It's Friday, but there's still time for a Windows 10 Insider Preview build in the Dev channel this week. Today's build is 21318, and as usual, it's from the rs_prerelease branch, meaning that it's not tied to any specific feature update. If you want something that is tied to a feature release, that's what the Beta channel is for, and the team actually released its first Windows 10 21H1 build this week.
As for today's build, there isn't much that's new, which is no surprise. The biggest change is that you can now paste in plain text from your clipboard history, a small but notable change. As with most new features these days, you may or may not get it, despite explicitly sacrificing system stability to enroll in the Dev channel.
Here's the full changelog:
Paste as plain text in clipboard history
Simply open clipboard history (WIN + V) and click the … button next to any text-based entry in your clipboard history – you will now see a “Paste as plain text” option alongside pin and delete! When you use this action in clipboard history, it pastes the text content of the clipboard without its original formatting (font, color, size etc.), allowing it to match the formatting of the destination document.
We look forward to you trying it! Please file any feedback you have for clipboard history under Input and Language > Clipboard (Copy and Paste) in the Feedback Hub.
This feature is rolling out to a subset of Insiders in the Dev Channel at first, to help us quickly identify issues that may impact performance and reliability. Rest assured they will be gradually rolled out to everyone in the Dev Channel.
There are a few other notes, such as a shout-out for the new Journal app. But also, as we know, Windows 10 vNext supports x64 emulation on Windows on ARM PCs. Starting with this build, you no longer need a separate preview of the C++ redistributable package.
As always, you can grab the build through Windows Update. If you're not on the Dev channel, you can go to the Windows Insider Program tab to get started.
