If you have a Surface 2 or Lumia 2520, the excitement around Windows 10 likely has you a bit down as Microsoft is not bringing this OS to your machine. What they will be doing, instead, is delivering an 'update' to RT machines, but the company has declined to provide any substantial details around what this will include.
Microsoft has updated its FAQ page to give a bit of guidance about what to expect and it simply says that the update for Windows RT will arrive around the release of Windows 10. Unfortunately, that's where the company's answer stops. There's not even a hint as to what RT users should expect.
Windows RT, as we know it today, is a dead-end OS. This update will likely be the last major release that provides any new features and going forward, Microsoft is utilizing Windows 10 on all of its platforms. WinRT, the runtime which Windows RT is based upon, is still alive and well in Windows 10, but as a stand-alone OS, Windows RT is no longer being sold with new devices.
If Microsoft is planning to bring an update to the RT platforms around the time of Windows 10's release, we shouldn't have to wait too much longer to get an answer about what this update includes.
