Microsoft's Xbox 360 game console once again was the number one best-selling console in the US in April 2013, but year-on-year sales of the hardware have taken a nose dive. Today, the company announced that, according to numbers supplied by the NPD Group, the console sold 130,000 units, making this the 28th straight month that the Xbox 360 outsold its competitors.
However, April 2013's numbers were well below those of April 2012, when Microsoft announced that it sold 236,000 units of the Xbox 360. This seems to indicate that the console, which is now over seven years old, is finally reaching the end of its life, as Microsoft prepares to officially announce the next version of the Xbox on Tuesday.
GamesIndustry.biz reports that retail sales for the entire game industry in the US took a massive hit in April, with total revenues (hardware, software and accessories) of just $495.2 million, down a whopping 25 percent from the same period a year ago. Injustice: Gods Among Us, the DC Comics-based super hero fighting game from Warner Bros Interactive, was the best selling game in the US in April, followed by Dead Island: Riptide, BioShock Infinite, Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Defiance.
