Microsoft may not be publishing Titanfall for the Xbox One (Electronic Arts is handling that job) but the company is acting like the multiplayer first-person shooter is a first party title for their new game console. This week, Microsoft announced plans to hold a major Titanfall launch event March 10th in Austin, Texas, right in the middle of the city's South by Southwest festival.
The Xbox Wire site posted up word this week of the launch event, which will begin at 9 pm at the Microsoft Studio at 323 Congress Ave in Austin. In addition to team members from the game's developer Respawn Entertainment, Microsoft will have Xbox Corporate Vice President Yusuf Mehdi present at the event, along with Xbox Live head of programming Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb. It will also feature a performance by hip-hop artist Childish Gambino (also known as Donald Glover, the recently departed cast member of the TV sitcom Community).
Of course, there will be a chance to play Titanfall at the Austin launch event and win some prizes before the stroke of midnight, when the game will go on sale. The event will be live-streamed via Twitch.tv as well. Over 6,000 retailers in the U.S. will begin to sell the game in their stores at midnight on March 11th in their time zones. Microsoft says that special Titanfall launch celebrations will also be held in Canada, Europe, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand.
Microsoft is going all out to help promote Titanfall, including offering a special Xbox One hardware bundle, with a code for a free digital download of the game, for its regular price of $499.99.
