Microsoft's latest Surface Pro update enables support for Windows 10 S

Earlier this week, Microsoft released a set of updates for its newest Surface Pro tablet; however, the company didn't release a changelog right away. It's not the first time that this has happened either, as there was an undocumented Surface Pro 4 update just a few weeks ago that broke Windows Hello functionality.

The company has finally published the release notes for the trio of updates, and interestingly, they're meant to enable support for Windows 10 S. Here's the full changelog:

Windows Update History Name Device Manager Name

According to Microsoft's Value Indicator chart, these updates improve compatibility, and have no effect on security, reliability, connectivity, performance, or battery life.

The company has said previously that it might offer the Surface Pro in a Windows 10 S variant, so it's indeed possible that this set of updates is preparing for that. Naturally, it's also now possible to install the OS on any machine that has a Windows 10 Pro license, so it may be as simple as offering additional support for users who choose that route.

Of course, Microsoft doesn't communicate these things with its customers, despite the fact that it continues to promise commitment to Surface and Surface customers after losing the 'recommended' status from Consumer Reports.
