Microsoft has introduced the latest Reading Coach resource in Teams along with bringing improvements to Reading Progress that has been developed to offer support to learners and enable them to access quality reading fluency guidance across Microsoft 365 apps.
Instructional Coach, Chino Valley Unified School District, Angela Milversted stated:
Reading Coach is truly a dream come true for teachers, after students are done reading their passage it gives them instantaneous feedback on the words they struggled with the most. Students are then prompted to select the word they want to improve on, and Reading Coach will show step by step how to break the word down by syllables and pronounce each syllable to read fluently. I think it's amazing what we would do in the past with a student when they struggled with a word now can be done with the AI in Reading Coach.
Reading Coach acts as a reading practice tool that automatically produces individualized exercises according to the specific requirements of each student. Moreover, it also automatically detects words that a student is not well-acquainted with and generates supplementary practices when the student uploads a Reading Progress assignment.
The latest resource offers information on the use of accurate pronunciation and syllabification in addition to sharing visuals to aid in vocabulary recall. Reading Coach and Reading Progress operate in conjunction to aid teachers in offering "just-in-time support". Reading Coach will come built into Immersive Reader that will further bring features, such as Microsoft Translator, that provide assistance designed to aid all students including those with special educational needs understand concepts and text better.
With new updates, Reading Progress will not only measure and identify correct words per minute, accuracy rate, and challenging words but also track all three components of reading fluency by bringing automatic detection of prosody. The latest updates will also come with support for more than 100 languages.
Literacy Expert, Pam Allyn stated:
Reading Progress is a transformational asset to a teacher's repertoire of tools: and it is also a transformational way for students themselves to actually enjoy and be an active part of advancing their reading lives.
Those schools that have an Office 365 or Microsoft 365 license can have access to Reading Progress resources for free using Teams Assignments. Reading Coach will also be available in Teams for Education later this year.
